How our products are made

The production of inks and toners is a very complex but also an interesting process in terms of technology at the factory of printing materials.

In one day, at the production line of Black Point plant located outside Wrocław, a few thousand such innovative products are manufactured.

Below, we present a brief description of production of Black Point ink cartridges.

Step 1
verification of components

For the production of its inks, Black Point uses some parts of sub-assemblies retrieved from recycling. Thanks to the unique technology and experience earned through the almost 25 years of operation, a completely new, high-quality and patent-safe product is made. ‘We receive an empty cartridge, which is then verified for its quality and functionality. We must determine whether it is fit to be used again.

‘We check such elements as the pins or temperature sensor, which is an integral part of a cartridge,’ explains Dariusz Troszczyński, product design and development engineer at Black Point SA. To maintain the highest efficiency and print quality, Black Point uses restrictive methods of selection of other components. Most vital is the quality of ink itself and of other sub-assemblies used in the production process. A proper selection of component suppliers is one of Black Point’s priorities. In practice, only few manage to meet the harsh quality requirements of the producer.

  • re-manufacturing/re-furbishing is the process of re-processing of empty ink and laser cartridges as a result of which, thanks to the use of additional high-quality components, brand new products are made.

One important feature of this procedure is the use of empty printer cartridges, which, with proper preparation of other elements, guarantees patent and quality safety of the products. Materials utilizing recycled sub-assemblies help reduce pollution of the environment.

Step 2
selection of components

The fulfilment of set quality parameters is possible through the so-called completion. It is a list of components, prepared by production process engineers, adjusted to a given cartridge model, so it is simply a recipe for the best-quality cartridge. Each model is assigned its individual unique completion, which guarantees stable quality and efficiency parameters.

Step 3
at the production line

After a positive passing of the tests, a cartridge undergoes cleaning. It is the most laborious and advanced stage in the whole production process – depending on the model, it can take up to 2-3 days. ‘The initial stage of the reproduction process is the preparation of the cartridge for further use by filling it with a special liquid,’ explains Dariusz Troszczyński.

‘Its composition is a unique mixture adjusted to each cartridge model,’ he adds. At this production stage, many advanced machines and devices are used, and the whole process is facilitated by specially selected chemicals. The printing head is cleaned as well as the channels feeding the ink to the head and the chamber under the sieve which is covered by a sponge. Professional cleaning must take many hours, sometimes days – it’s all to obtain the highest-quality product.

A cartridge prepared this way is then filled with appropriately selected ink. ‘Both before and after filling, the cartridge is weighed against a technological table. Thanks to ISO guidelines and detailed controls at each production stage, we are sure that the final product is stable,’ further explains Dariusz Troszczyński. Black Point engineers take meticulous care to ensure that the amount of ink in cartridges is optimal and compliant with declaration on the packaging. After weighing, the cartridge “matures”. This way, the pressure is levelled, so that later in use the cartridge causes no trouble.

Step 4
testing

The production line of Black Point provides only such products for sale whose quality has been 100% proven. The quality control process was developed by experts of highest competencies. At this stage of trial prints, the quality verification of the product takes place. In the control process, Black Point engineers use trial tests provided by global producers of inks and toners. After printing the test page, a number of parameters are studied, including: quality of black coverage, presence of any potential cuts or air. For colour prints, there are more such parameters.

  • product print parameters are checked in accordance with international standards of the trade, which are individually provided for each product by ISO/IEC standards. And so, the /IEC 19752 standard allows to determine the efficiency of monochromatic toners; ISO/IEC 19798 – of colour toners; and ISO/IEC 24711 – of ink cartridges. The same standards are used by equipment manufacturers when determining the efficiency of their products.

Step 5
sealing

An almost ready product needs to be sealed so that the ink does not leak from the packaging through openings in the nozzle plate. ‘Sealing is the basic procedure in the process of preparing the product for transport,’ explains Dariusz Troszczyński. ‘It can be performed in two ways. The first one uses tape, which, through adhesion, sticks to the nozzle plate. The other way is to use small plastic stands. After opening the packaging with Black Point consumable material, you can check for yourself which method has been used,’ he adds.

Step 6
packing

The production process is finished. Now, the cartridge will be packed in an aesthetic carton and it will be given a hologram certifying that the product is original.
Each packaging is also supplemented with a special, free of charge envelope under the project “Return your cartridge, help plant trees.” As part of the project, we co-finance afforestation of Poland. That way, together with Klub Gaja (Gaia Club) and Lasy Państwowe (State Forests), since 2007 we have planted over 13 thousand trees! Ink thus prepared is then taken to the warehouse. From there, it will be delivered to the major shops with electrical appliances and computer equipment in Poland.

  • Did you know...
  • By buying a Black Point product, you have made the best choice possible! You support Polish industry and at the same time you have actual influence on environmental protection. Thanks to you, we plant more trees and an empty cartridge does not end up at a landfill, where it could decompose for as long as 800 years. You gain an exquisite quality of print, safety of use and the best performance in the market. With Black Point, every second page of print is virtually for free. Do not be consistent – Be alternative!
